All about Trivia: Traditional trivia nights feature a host, or quiz master, delivering questions on a number of topics. Trivia nights are usually divided up into a number of rounds, which can include regular questions, picture rounds, or audio rounds.
Participants form teams of six to eight members and submit written answers at the end of each round to the trivia host.
Another term for trivia night is pub quiz, which speaks to the Anglo-Irish roots of the trivia night phenomenon. Although no formal academic studies of trivia nights have taken place, and therefore it is hard to differentiate fact from legend, it is commonly cited that the tradition of pub quizzes started in either Ireland or Scotland in the 1950s with the debut of the televised game show. According to this version of events, people going to pubs to watch game shows and shouting out the answers eventually gave rise to a more formalized version of pub quizzes beginning in the 1970’s.
